What is Counselling and How Can It Help Me?

Counselling is a talking therapy which means it offers you an opportunity to talk about whatever is causing you difficulties in your life. Most people find it beneficial to be able to talk to someone who is not connected to the situation or issue. It can be really helpful to talk to someone independent who is experienced and qualified and who can focus on your individual experience.

I offer a chance to reflect on the difficulties or problems you are experiencing in a safe and confidential environment, with someone from outside your day-to-day life. Together we can explore your situation in a way that leads to fresh perspectives – and perhaps a new understanding of yourself. Counselling isn’t about giving you solutions or advice, but empowering you to make your own changes.

As a person centred counsellor the counselling is client led which means that I offer counselling to meet your individual needs. You decide how you want to use the sessions, what you would like to discuss in each session and how many sessions you would like. I work with you to understand your unique experiences and help you process and make sense of your responses. I do not tell you what to do but encourage you to gain autonomy, recognise choice and identify possible changes you may feel able to make.

Counselling takes place in a safe space, where you can meet with someone who will listen with sensitivity and empathy – and without judgement. In our session your thoughts and feelings can be expressed freely and in confidence.

Online Zoom Video Counselling

Online counselling gives you the opportunity to access support at a time and in a place, which is convenient to you. It gives you flexibility as it enables you to have visual contact without the need to travel. Zoom can be downloaded onto your phone, tablet or laptop. You will be sent a secure link prior to your session.

Face to Face Counselling

Face to face counselling may enable you to have time and space that is just for you without interruptions that may not be possible to achieve elsewhere.

I offer face to face counselling in Desborough and Market Harborough, and see clients from the surrounding areas.
